Lewis Hamilton Going Carbon Free By End of 2019Keith
He is well known for speeding around on a race track at silly miles per hour, but Formula One star Lewis Hamilton is giving himself a different kind of goal by attempting to be carbon neutral by the end of2019.
He spoke to the press about his concerns for the environment and said he has changed parts of his lifestyle to try and help cut his carbon footprint, firstly by selling his private plane and having a ban on plastics in his daily life.
Some people have criticised him and feel his position is confusing because the carbon footprint of Formula One is very high.
Lewis has been vegan since 2017 and has defended his environmental concerns and has called on everyone to try to make a difference.
He said he intended to make himself carbon-neutral by the end of 2019, explaining that he is swapping his fuel road cars for electric ones.
“I don’t allow anyone in my office, but also within my household, to buy any plastics,” he commented.
“I want everything recycle-able down to deodorant and toothbrush, all these kind of things.”
He sold his plane over a year ago and flies a lot less now. He tries to fly less through the year and mostly by commercial airlines.
He was positive that F1, which has embraced hybrid technology as part of the engine, could also do more to make a difference. Hybrid technology is a mixture of electric and non-renewable fuel, which reduces emissions.
